How do drug testing devices work and what are cut-off levels?
Instant drug tests detect the presence of metabolites formed after consuming certain substances. A cut-off level represents the minimum amount of metabolites that must be present in order for a screening device to show a presumptive positive result. For example, a cut-off level of 300 ng/mL means that 300 nanograms of the metabolite must be present within 1 milliliter of the sample in order to be detected.
